Coaching FAQ

Question: I got your address from a friend. Can I be sure that there is full discretion?
Answer: Full discretion goes without saying. As mentioned above, I would not tell anybody about your appointments or the content of the sessions without your consent. That is part of the code of ethics of professional coaches.

Questions and Answers

Question: How often do the sessions take place and how long are they?
Answer: It depends on your types of goals. 7-8 coaching sessions about every 2-4 weeks have proven to be effective. Sometimes 1-3 sessions can be enough to start the change you are aiming for.
We tailor the frequency and amount of sessions together to meet your requirements.

Question: What is the content of a first coaching session?
Answer: The first session is about contracting. We will talk about your goals and expectations as well as the length and frequency of the sessions. I will also find out how you want to work and how not.

Question: What about my financial investment?
Answer: The costs are based on the counselling rates of the BSO professional association. A short online meeting (15-20 minutes) to assess your needs is free of charge. Transparency is important to me: You will always know in advance what costs to expect.

In case it is difficult for your budget, we will look for a solution.

Fees for group counselling depend on the process.

Question: I would like to discuss business related topics. Does it make sense to ask my employer to cover part of the expences?
Answer: It could be that your employer would pay for the sessions. However, it might be worth thinking about it. If your employer pays for it, he/she might want to have information on the content and progress of the coaching process. Such information is only passed on either directly by yourself or with your agreement.

Question: Is coaching a sign of weakness?
Answer: No, it is about taking control. By getting a professional coach you prove that you are aware of your personal options and limits. People who ignore their difficulties for too long risk having their problems build up and cause significant anxiety and emotional distress.

Question: How is coaching distinct from other service professions like therapy or consulting?
Answer: In contrast to therapy, where the focus is often on difficulties arising from the past and affecting the present, coaching is more future focused and solution-based. The emphasis is on current issues and changes, mostly in regards to your professional life, but also including your private life.
The assumption regarding consulting is that the consultants are experts prescribing the right solutions eg for a problem on a technical level. With coaching, the assumption is that the individuals or teams are the experts of their own difficulties. The coach enables them to work out their own solutions.

Question: What can I contribute in order to get the most ouf of the coaching?
Answer: Since a coach's work is not to provide expertise consulting or to prescribe solutions, it is essential that you involve yourself in the coaching process. Be open yet critical and take the time after a coaching session to review what has taken place there.
